OVER 100 NSW ANIMAL SPECIES THREATENED

– INCLUDING KOALA

According to the New South Wales Government’s Saving our Species program, there are currently 100 priority animal species in NSW that are listed as threatened under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016.

Some of the mammal species that are at risk in NSW include:

  1. Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby (Petrogale penicillata): This species is listed as Endangered in NSW due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and predation by introduced species.
  2. Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus): This iconic species is listed as Vulnerable in NSW due to habitat loss, fragmentation, disease, and other factors.
  3. Eastern Quoll (Dasyurus viverrinus): This species is listed as Endangered in NSW due to habitat loss, predation by introduced species, and disease.
  4. Grey-headed Flying-fox (Pteropus poliocephalus): This species is listed as Vulnerable in NSW due to habitat loss and fragmentation, persecution, and climate change.
  5. Long-nosed Potoroo (Potorous tridactylus): This species is listed as Vulnerable in NSW due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and predation by introduced species.

Other mammal species that are at risk in NSW include various bat species, the Broad-toothed Rat (Mastacomys fuscus), the Yellow-bellied Glider (Petaurus australis), and the Spotted-tailed Quoll (Dasyurus maculatus).

These species and others are important to the ecological health of NSW and their loss could have significant impacts on the broader ecosystem.

Save Our Woodlands is determined – with your help – to protect and restore habitats and populations of these species, including through habitat restoration, predator control, and other measures.

Save Our Woodlands is an environmentally conscious group of volunteers dedicated to preserving threatened birds, animals and ecosystems in the woodlands of New South Wales, Australia.

Only 15% of our woodlands remain, the rest has been cleared for agriculture.

Save Our Woodlands Inc. secures and protects woodlands in NSW and pays landholders, in perpetuity, to conserve, enhance and re-establish native woodlands on THEIR land, and to manage these woodlands, so they are maintained.

BUT we need YOUR help.  Together we can bring about change.  Please consider donating.

People tend to think that woodlands are “just bush,” consequently, over 85% of the native woodlands in New South Wales, Australia have been replaced by agriculture.

Donate $10 per month & help protect critical habitats.   By doing so YOU will prevent further species from extinction.

Our work is only possible with your support.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
