A LITTLE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL?

THE GUARDIAN December 6, 2023:  Humanity faces ‘devastating domino effects’ including mass displacement and financial ruin as the planet warms.

This INCREDIBLY SCARY warning comes as world leaders meet for the Cop28 climate summit in Dubai.

The article and GLOBAL TIPPING POINTS report brought us to our knees until we got to section 4

SO WHAT IS A TIPPING POINT?

The point at which a series of small changes or incidents becomes significant enough to cause a larger, more important change.

POSITIVE TIPPING POINTS:

Section 4 starts out…

Transformative and just positive tipping points can emerge with the right enabling conditions, feedbacks and triggers.

Climate solutions focusing on fundamental shifts in behaviours, values and institutions are as important as those that focus on technologies, materials and markets.

An avoid-shift-improve logic which rethinks our activities – whether they can be omitted, changed or undertaken more efficiently – can be used in many sectors to design interventions to manage holistic structural change.”

We are always thinking about what we as volunteer eco-warriors and those who follow and support us can do.

We are firm believers that little bits add up.

The report provides answers, ones that we are doing our best – with your help – to implement on a daily basis.

A few more lines from the report:

‘Negative’ tipping points are now so close that urgent action needs to be taken to prevent them. Beneficial, ‘positive’ tipping points (PTPs) offer hope for accelerating responses to match this urgency.

Again, scary – right? But the report also states:

A Positive Tipping Point in one system can trigger one or more PTPs in other systems in a domino or cascade effect, generating widespread societal change.

And the following phrases help us feel that we are on the right track.

Positive Tipping Points (PTPs) are already well underway in wind and solar power generation and in leading battery electric vehicle (BEV) markets.

But the supply of technological solutions on its own is unlikely to be sufficient to meet decarbonisation targets.

It is also important to trigger PTPs in the demand for energy and transport services and food – for example, by making public transport the cheapest, most convenient option.

Coordinated action between supply and demand amplifies the impact of each.

Accelerating change in food systems also has important ‘positive cascading’ implications for natural ecosystems, accelerating nature recovery and restoring natural carbon sinks.

Other changes – in behavioural norms, values and practices; in political institutions, policy priorities, and public pressure; in global financial systems and international funding mechanisms; and in digital and information systems – are also vitally important for delivering the necessary speed and scale of systemic change.

Yes, you are correct, the news is often discouraging but we keep putting one foot in front of the other, moving forward with our four projects, and looking to fund even more.

We invite you to lock arms with us…

Save Our Woodlands is an environmentally conscious group of volunteers dedicated to preserving threatened birds, animals and ecosystems in the woodlands of New South Wales, Australia.

Only 15% of our woodlands remain, the rest has been cleared for agriculture.

Save Our Woodlands Inc. secures and protects woodlands in NSW and pays landholders, in perpetuity, to conserve, enhance and re-establish native woodlands on THEIR land, and to manage these woodlands, so they are maintained.

BUT we need YOUR help.  Together we can bring about change.  Please consider donating.

People tend to think that woodlands are “just bush,” consequently, over 85% of the native woodlands in New South Wales, Australia have been replaced by agriculture.

Donate $10 per month & help protect critical habitats.   By doing so YOU will prevent further species from extinction.

Our work is only possible with your support.
