SO WHAT IS FOREST BATHING?

Forest bathing, also known as Shinrin-yoku, is a practice that originated in Japan and has gained popularity worldwide as a form of nature therapy or ecotherapy.

It involves immersing oneself in a forest or natural environment and mindfully engaging with the sights, sounds, smells, and overall ambiance of the surroundings.

Did you know that more and more traditional medical professionals are recommending, even going as far as prescribing that their patients get outside and into nature, especially in amongst and under trees?

Forest bathing is NOT about physical exertion or exercise but rather about slowing down, being present, and connecting with nature on a sensory level.

It is a way to relax, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being.

The practice encourages individuals to engage their senses and to be fully present in the forest, allowing them to experience the healing and calming effects of nature.

BENEFITS INCLUDE:

Mindfulness: Forest bathing emphasizes being fully present in the moment and observing the natural environment with a sense of awareness.

This involves paying attention to the sounds of birds or rustling leaves, the scent of the forest, the feel of the air, and the visual beauty of the surroundings.

Relaxation and Stress Reduction: Forest bathing is a practice that promotes relaxation and stress reduction.

Spending time in nature has been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce stress hormones, and induce a state of calmness and relaxation.

Sensory Immersion: Forest bathing encourages individuals to engage their senses fully.

It involves slowing down and deliberately noticing the sights, sounds, smells, textures, and even tastes of the forest environment.

This sensory immersion allows for a deeper connection with nature.

Health Benefits: Numerous studies have shown that spending time in nature, including forest environments, can have positive effects on physical and mental health.

Forest bathing has been associated with reduced stress, improved mood, enhanced immune function, increased energy levels, and improved cognitive function.

Forest bathing does not require any specific equipment or techniques.

It can be as simple as taking a leisurely walk in a forest, finding a quiet spot to sit and observe, or even lying down and taking in the sounds and smells of the natural environment.

The key is to slow down, let go of distractions, and engage with nature using all the senses.

Overall, forest bathing is a way to reconnect with nature, find solace in its beauty, and experience the therapeutic benefits that the natural environment offers.

It provides an opportunity to escape the fast-paced modern world, rejuvenate the mind and body, and foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
