WE ALL NEED TREES TO SURVIVE

Trees are the lungs of our world. They give us oxygen and shade, provide homes for wildlife, and keep carbon out of the atmosphere. Our planet, our wildlife, our health, our communities – we all need trees to survive.

You may be thinking, “Okay, nothing surprising there” but did you know…

AND SADLY ELSEWHERE IN THE COUNTRY…

Did you know Australia leads the developed world when it comes to deforestation?

More than one tree is bulldozed in this country every second.

Not exactly a statistic to be proud of – is it?

So what can you do to make a difference?

GET YOUR HANDS DIRTY

If you’re lucky enough to live on a property where you have space for a garden – or even a few potted plants –  please consider planting native plants and trees that have been sustainably grown.  Check with your local garden centre – ask them for native species.

We’re coming into the right time of the year as planting of natives should be done during the wetter, cooler months of the year:  autumn, winter or early spring.

We found these gardens inspirational  and liked the easy to plant options on this list of 8 Australian native plants.

The important thing is start somewhere, every native you’re able to plant is a step in the right direct and little bits do add up.

No matter where you live – whether in an urban jungle, the suburban streets or the countryside – no matter if you can or can’t plant trees or native plants on your own property, please consider contributing to organizations like Save Our Woodlands.

We are volunteer run and make every dollar count.

We currently have 4 projects underway.  ALL designed to protect trees in perpetuity – which in turn helps everything from koalas to gliders, endangered birds to bees — and the goal is to not only protect but also to increase the number of trees on each property.

To do so we need your continued support.

Join the conversation on our social media accounts.

Save Our Woodlands is an environmentally conscious group of volunteers dedicated to preserving threatened birds, animals and ecosystems in the woodlands of New South Wales, Australia.

Only 15% of our woodlands remain, the rest has been cleared for agriculture.

Save Our Woodlands Inc. secures and protects woodlands in NSW and pays landholders, in perpetuity, to conserve, enhance and re-establish native woodlands on THEIR land, and to manage these woodlands, so they are maintained.

BUT we need YOUR help.  Together we can bring about change.  Please consider donating.

People tend to think that woodlands are “just bush,” consequently, over 85% of the native woodlands in New South Wales, Australia have been replaced by agriculture.

Donate $10 per month & help protect critical habitats.   By doing so YOU will prevent further species from extinction.

Our work is only possible with your support.
