THE PROPOSED WINDFARM IN YARROWYCK NSW

WILL DESTROY 35,000 HECTARES OF WOODLANDS

Save Our Woodlands are not against renewable energy, but we DO NOT want windfarms situated where they will destroy our endangered woodlands.

85% of woodlands in NSW have been wiped out, we need to preserve what we have left — not bulldoze it away for the sake of a windfarm.

There are over 150 endangered and vulnerable species indigenous to our woodlands including the Regent Honey Eater, Swift parrot and threatened Koala do we need to lose any more of their habitat?

WE SUPPORT WINDFARMS IN CERTAIN LOCATIONS

There are thousands of hectares of bare hills in the Uralla shire which could support windfarms without destroying Yarrowyck woodlands.

As we investigate the situation it seems that the windfarm designated for Yarrowyck NSW is more destructive than we imagined.

Here is a map from six maps of the area being investigated.

The dark areas are trees, the light areas are cleared land.  The black line shows the proposed windfarm area.

Although EDF Renewables say they will not remove any trees, this is being profoundly rash with the truth.

From the map we can see that it is not possible to build a wind farm in this area without land clearing.

The wind farm will be 50 km long (their figures) which is more than 50 km of roads and another 50 km of clearing for power lines plus clearing the area around the wind turbines approximately one ha (2.4 acres).

This equates to 50 km x 7 km or

50,000 x 7000=350,000,000 sq. metres or

35, 000 hectares of woodland

will be completely destroyed.

The noise from wind turbines is so loud you cannot hear yourself speak.

An article from the Sydney Morning Herald written by Nicole Hasham opens with the following…

Can wind turbines disturb sleep? Research finds pulsing audible in homes up to 3.5km away

A world-first Australian study has found that pulsing wind farm noise is sometimes audible inside a home up to 3.5 kilometres from a turbine, in findings likely to buoy those opposed to the low-emissions technology.

From the statistics provided by EDF Renewables and the scientific research by Flinders University mentioned in the article above, the conclusion we at Save Our Woodlands have reached is that for 3.5 km on both sides of a wind turbine the woodland will be uninhabitable by both birds and animals because not only will precious woodlands be destroyed, they will not be able to sleep.

Again, that equates to 35,000 hectares of precious woodland wildlife habitat in NSW where 85% has already been destroyed.

HOW DO YOU WANT YOUR WORLD TO BE?

THIS…

OR THIS?

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

We need a minimum of 50 people from Yarrowyck, Kingstown, Invergowrie, Uralla, Bundarra and environs to volunteer to develop a submission to oppose the development of a wind farm at Yarrowyck.

If you are worried that you don’t know anything about the process or how to write and submit a submission…

Please don’t be, we will help you every step of the way.  No experience is necessary.  The only requirement is a desire to help.

BUT we need to get ready NOW because when submissions are asked for there will be a time limit of 28 days.

If you are willing to help, please

People tend to think that woodlands are “just bush,” consequently, over 85% of the native woodlands in New South Wales, Australia have been replaced by agriculture.
