STOP THE DESTRUCTION OF ENDANGERED KOALAS’ HABITAT IN NEW ENGLAND, NSW, AUSTRALIA – BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.

Koalas are listed as an endangered species on Australia’s east coast. Surely the survival of this international icon is worthy of a global effort.

Koalas have gone from no-listing to vulnerable to endangered within a decade.

That is a shockingly fast decline.

The New England area has been designated by the government of New South Wales, Australia as an ARC for the preservation of endangered koalasyet precious woodland habitats are bulldozed and disappearing daily.

To prevent koalas from sliding toward extinction we need stronger laws to protect habitat.

Please join us in demanding local, state and federal governments protect New England woodlands from the destructive effects of wind farms, solar farms and associated electricity transmission lines.

We are NOT opposed to green energy solutions BUT there are much better locations than the habitat of endangered koalas.

A better choice would be through the middle of N.S.W. along the existing inland rail route.

The existing route would be far less expensive and less destructive – there is NOT a need to build a new route.

We are appealing to the powers that be to move the route west where there is:

  • more sunlight
  • less rainfall
  • more wind
  • flatter land for roadways and infrastructure
  • fewer people
  • far less impact on communities
  • less agriculture production
  • far fewer endangered ecosystems, plants, animals and birds

There will unfortunately still be a cost to the environment but this is a far more sensible approach than the current plans.

Let’s stop bulldozing and protect the remaining 15% of NSW woodlands for endangered koalas, and other species along with our children and grandchildren.

Again, surely the survival of koalas – Australian and international icons – is worthy of a global effort – please take 1 minute to sign & share.

WE ARE NOT OPPOSED TO RENEWABLES

BUT we would like governments at all levels to carefully consider every aspect of solar and windfarms so we believe the following petition is worthy of your consideration.

We, the petitioners, call upon the Federal Government to commit to a moratorium on all large-scale wind, solar, pumped hydro and related transmission projects until:

1. a bond is held from start of project with guaranteed finance in place to cover decommissioning and full project removal, disposal and rehabilitation costs at end of life;

2. appropriate regulations are in place to protect threatened and endangered species;

3. large scale renewable projects are subject to full State government approval processes and be made impact-assessable not code-assessable;

4. an appropriate land access framework to protect the environment, cultural heritage and existing land users is established;

5. the financial impact upon existing rate payers and their Local Councils is negotiated as compensation for the use of infrastructure and any damage thereto;

6. Australia's food security is protected by prohibiting large scale renewable projects on prime agricultural land; (See Paris Agreement Article 2 (1) (b))

7. all large-scale renewable projects comply with the same regulations that apply to agriculture and mining;

8. large scale renewable projects are added as a trigger to the EPBC Act;

9. a mandatory code of conduct is established to govern the renewable energy sector and renewable energy proponents’ conduct with affected communities.

10. Effective and efficient recycling and disposal of ‘renewable projects’ end of life infrastructure.

11. A secure, sovereign, energy generation plan is determined, to ensure citizens and businesses are able to access reliable, affordable and dispatchable electricity.

We therefore ask the House to to commit to a moratorium on all 'renewable energy' projects.

Save Our Woodlands is an environmentally conscious group of volunteers dedicated to preserving threatened birds, animals and ecosystems in the woodlands of New South Wales, Australia.

Only 15% of our woodlands remain, the rest has been cleared for agriculture.

Save Our Woodlands Inc. secures and protects woodlands in NSW and pays landholders, in perpetuity, to conserve, enhance and re-establish native woodlands on THEIR land, and to manage these woodlands, so they are maintained.

BUT we need YOUR help.  Together we can bring about change.  Please consider donating.

People tend to think that woodlands are “just bush,” consequently, over 85% of the native woodlands in New South Wales, Australia have been replaced by agriculture.

Donate $10 per month & help protect critical habitats.   By doing so YOU will prevent further species from extinction.

Our work is only possible with your support.
