SQUIRREL GLIDERS NOW CONSIDERED VULNERABLE IN NSW
Squirrel Gliders are small possums, somewhat smaller than their cousins the Sugar Glider.
They are marsupials who raise their young, usually two, in the pouch until they are big enough to travel on their mother’s back.
Squirrel gliders feed on insects, pollen and nectar, as well as the sap or resin from wattles and Eucalypts.
They use the membranes between their hind legs to glide between trees sometimes up to 100 metres (300 feet).
They forage only at night, and they have light-sensitive eyes which are adapted for night vision.
During the day they sleep in hollow trees.
Squirrel Gliders are considered vulnerable in NSW, threatened in Victoria and endangered in South Australia.
The main threats to the Squirrel Glider are cats, barbed wire fences which can catch them when they are gliding, and fragmentation and loss of habitat.
These tiny animals are yet another reason why we should save our woodlands.

BUT we need YOUR help. Together we can bring about change. Please consider donating.
People tend to think that woodlands are “just bush,” consequently, over 85% of the native woodlands in New South Wales, Australia have been replaced by agriculture.
